DEFY.

SAN to DAL.

Can you relate to that feeling when you’ve boarded an airplane and it’s being backed out onto the tarmac.  The plane inches out onto the runway and before you know it, begins to speed up.  A burst of excitement always lights up my face and carries me into the take off where we seeming so slowly, but very speedily defy gravity and fly into the sky. That steady upward motion that takes you closer than you’ve been to your long awaited destination.

I know that some people have quite real and extensive fears of flying for all sorts of reasons, I understand the PTSD, stigma, acrophobia, and/or anxiety that may cause that internal struggle.  I love to fly, so bear with me on this one!

To put this story into perspective, if it’s not too scary for you, place yourself into the shoes of the airplane throughout this departure process!

I recently heard a quote that I felt extreme motivation and validation from, “focus on one area of improvement at a time!” We can only fly one airplane at a time, no one wants you to juggle and fly five airplanes at a time…trust me no one does!  (Laughing out loud imagining that personification hahah)  But seriously, setting appropriately sized goals for self-improvement and working toward those are where we can really become successful.

Flying that single plane, giving that attribute the oxygen and sustenance that it requires to become part of your character.

Involving others that you’re close to or maybe are not so close to, as well as serving others in the process, bring that true happiness and success. Go out and set that destination for your plane, maybe you want to learn something new, get back into a habit, start a new habit, or go out of your comfort zone! Whatever it is, dive in with all of your sweet being and accomplish the world of improvement!

Can not wait to hear about your takeoff, progress, and maybe even your landing!

love love love,
Jake

  1. You reminded me of the day that I met with my first group of photographers for a meetup. Hours of connecting and creating were being handed to me but at the same time, apprehension and the unknown were present as well. What did I do to take that leap and make it to the meetup? I got on my own plane, metaphorically of corse, and said “screw it,” shuffled my music, played a podcast, and before I knew it there was no looking back. Awesome blog Jake! Can’t wait to read more!

    1. I love that so much! It’s amazing how much we can accomplish and where we can go from our attitude & internal motivation! You’re so awesome 🙂
